Grindhouse

Check this site out, it is the movie that we spoke about in class. It is an exploitation movie and the wikipedia article explains it well. There is also an interview with Tarantino in the new GQ, he explains it very well. Tarantino himself is crazy and unique mind to read about. His methods of mayham are not just careless and pointless, they result in beautiful films. His past films to me are the best movies that have been made since I have been alive. This film is unique thought because it is a dedication to the old movies of the past. Tarantino studied the films and he created his own version. It does not mean that these films are bad because they are exploitation films. Things do not always have to be bad because they are popular and are not way different from other things.

Guerilla Marketing

I love this website, this place shows different guerilla marketing campaigns around the world. It shows how creative people are and some advertisements are just pure art. They are amazingly creative and create for imaginations to run wild. It is not just what we see in the United States, advertisements are everywhere and they are most likely better. France is suppose to be the hub of advertising these days but it always goes through cycles. Go through the previous entries and check out all the ads, pick you favorite ones and come back and post a reply.

Gen-Esei

Everyone should go here and check out some of the graphic design/art. The stuff is unique and different. The abstract pieces seem dark and interesting, while the graphics section has variety. The sketches show you how some of his art evertually got finalized. It is a small site but it has plenty to look at and explore. You can quickly explore it or sit there and think about the art.

International Cellphone Charges

When going abroad people should always find out about their cellphones and how they will work internationally. The article by the NY Times will explain everything for you and it will tell you how to save money. Companies still using different technologies is the real issue, it would be great if Americans could just buy phones and move to different networks when we wanted too. We in the US do not technically buy our phones when we sign our contracts, we pay for them gradually while our contract expires. It would all be easier, but I guess we need a diversified market.

Skype Store

Since we have all been making Skype accounts, I thought that I should tell everyone that Skype has launched their own store. The store has all you need to set up the perfect Skype. The site sells an assortment of equipement and basically the things Skype itself has choosen. Take a look around but if your only using Skype once a twice in awhile than you don't need that stuff. I just put it up for people to see and enjoy.

The Superbowl of Texting

Ladies and Gentlemen of all ages, if you are great at texting than you must enter this contest to be the champ of text messaging. Yes, it is the Superbowl of texting. I do not think it is a sport but apparently it can be considered a sport now. You can win upto $25,000- it qualifies as a sport than. The championship will be held in NYC, so you will have home field advantage. I am kind of scared by this actually but if people are this fast at it than I want to see it. It is basically the world fastest typer contest but for the modern day. It should be entertaining especially if the west coast and east coast finalists are as good as each other.

Video Journals of Blockbusters

I having been wanting to see this movie for awhile and what makes it more interesting is the production of the movie. The making of the film is amazing and it is interesting to see the previews when you know that they filmed most of it on a green screen. When you look at these big blockbusters these days, their websites all have video journals. The cooler are ones when the director himself chimes in and talks about his movie. The younger director tend to do that and the older directors just have other people do it for them. Brett Ratner and Bryan Singer are usually more invovled with their video journals. Check out the one for 300 and see how movies are made.

Hollywood Stock Exchange

This is a HSX, it is the stock market for movies and actors. It is pretty interesting, you should go and sign up. I cannot fully explain the logistics of it but it is fun to play and do research on movies. It trackes how much money you make and it ranks you with all the players. I like to buy movies and see how they do. I usually sell them after a huge weekend and I dabble with a lot of independent films. The site is pretty good at explaining how prices are set and why certain actors most a certain amount. You can do research on IMDB.com, rottentomatoes.com, and boxofficemojo.com. Sign up and start to become a movie mogul!

Balancing Robots

These robots balance dynamically and moves more like a human, unlike robots that move like robots. In the video, one robot is pushed and he stabilizes by himself after he is pushed. He controls his balance, the robot is still operated by a human but once they figure out this technology than it can be programmed into a chip. It would be awesome if robots moved fluidly and not so jointed. Once they start to progress, I will update this entry. Go check out the video!

Gilbert Arenas

Another blog by a famous person in the NBA is by Gilbert Arenas and he is sort of a weird guy. He is ultra confident and odd so people like to read his blog. He is a guy who showered at half time in his uniform and he supposedly plays poker during half time too. He recently had a shootout with his teammate with $20,000 on the line. He shoot one handed from the college three point line and his teammate shoot with two hands from the NBA three point line. All he does is complain and say that his team is back together. I one for sure do not like to read it after I skim through it but he, unlike a lot of NBA superstars, is upfront about his ego and I can respect that.

Mark Cuban Blog

Mark Cuban is a billionaire who made his money by starting a business in the dot com era. His company was bought by Yahoo! and he recieved stock of Yahoo!. He later sold his shares and became a billionaire and he came into the public eye when he purchased the Dallas Mavericks. He has taken an average team and built it into a powerhouse. He actually writes a blog and writes about YouTube, the internet, liscensing, and HDTV. He basically writes a lot about technology and sometimes he will address sports. His issues change but he will argue his point and right now it is about YouTube and Google Video. Go read his points, they are pretty good.

Roy S. Johnson's Blog

I found this blog because I worked with Roy for a week and he told me about it. I have read it ever since he suggested it to me. It is a interesting site because I am a sports fan and Roy is a guy who has been writing in this industry for years and yet he has a blog. It seems like the most simple way for his fans to follow him. This man has worked for Sports Illustrated and ESPN and he started a blog to hear peoples' opinions. He got feedback in the old days but it was delayed by good old fashion hand written letters. Now people can just write in their reply after reading his words. He also just writes what comes into his mind and he does not have to think about features and stories. I find it interesting to read about his thoughts and not these thought out stories. Go check it out, he updates pretty frequently.

ESPN 360

ESPN 360 is a sports fans dream, without TV you can watch highlights. It has shows on there and you can choose what you want to watch. It gives the fans control and we can choose to ignore what we don't want to watch. It upgrades a regular ESPN.com to a super status. The site streams well and the system works well. ESPN 360 is combing the channel and website, it is making existing line disappear. ESPN has recently taken steps to have their channel on phones. Verizon wireless just launched Mobile TV and it has eight live channels. It is currently only available in certain areas in the US. As the internet keeps growing, video seems to be jumping on its back.

The Galaxy Riders

I was walking around the streets in my usual clothes and this guy and girl with a camera come up to me and ask if they can take a picture of me. I ask for what and they said it was for a website magazine. So, I said okay and they told me that it was going to me on the thegalaxyriders.com. First I thought galazy writers because he said it was a magazine. But when googled that, it ended up being a sci-fi thing. Than I googled, galaxy riders and it ended being the magazine I was looking for. I am not up there yet but I will be eventually. It is a pretty clean site and it is a NYC based blog. It is a site about fashion and hip-hop. It is an unique looking site but it is fresh and clean. I think it is an interesting website, it is a site for clothes to but they respect all types of brands. When I am on the site, I will update my entry.

Magazines on USB...

The New Yorker has just released their entire magazine collection on a USB storage drive for $150.00. It is scanned pages of the magazine and it does have an index system, it is also 80 years of the magazine in one storage unit. I think this is personally pretty unique and interesting even though it is not anything revoluntionary. If I am a fan of a magazine and I did not have the space to hold all the hard copies than I would want one of these for the magazine. It is also cool to look back at old magazines and see how the magazine changed over time. It is a museum in a storage drive and it is easily accessible to anyone. More magazines should follow in their footsteps.

Use your brain for videogames?

Project Epoc has created a controller to hook up to your head, this controller allows you to play videogames. I think it would be pretty cool to play for a little but I think videogames should be limited to handheld controllers. Maybe I am an old school videogamer and I like holding a controller, rather than having a machine read my brain. Handheld controllers also add the element of just pushing the wrong button and now that will be eliminated. The controller would probably also be very sensatitive and some people hate that. I think the benefits of videogames would decrease also because hand-eye coordination would be lost. I think it is an interesting concept but a whole body controller would be the coolest thing.
